SSS Week 2/Woche II + Top Knipmode

Aaargh... Why can't I comment? I've emptied my cache or whatever you call it, I do not click "stay logged in", nothing helps. Now I'm wondering... Where do my comments go to?  Some black hole in interspace?

Das Kommentierproblem schlägt mir auf die Stimmung. Ich habe Cookies etc. gelöscht und klicke brav "nicht angemeldet bleiben", was aber keinen interessiert. Die Kommentare sind einfach weg. Oder nur anderswo?

Self-Stitched September Week 1/Woche I

And: What's up with Blogger? I can't leave comments anywhere, I've tried really, so here's "You've all sewn lovely things; one of these days I'll be able to tell you again"!

This is/was week one or so of Self-Stitched September. I didn't take pictures every day, maybe around 20, so I'll show you four collages and hope I don't bore you to tears!

Bogger lässt mich z.Zt. kaum kommentieren; auch anonym geht das nicht überall, also sag' ich mal so: Ihr habt alle toll genäht, und irgendwann werde ich Euch das auch wieder als Kommentar schreiben!

Dies ist ca. die erste Woche des Self-Stitched September; ich habe nicht jeden Tag fotografiert und denke, ich werde noch drei Collagen zeigen.

Boy's Hat

Cute, no? In a pinch, I've borrowed it for a bag. I made two identical *hats* for myself and my best friend who loves London as much as I do, from the Cath Kidston fabric bought last year in England.
Von dem Hut aus Cath Kidston-Stoff (letztes Jahr in London gekauft) gibt es zwei Exemplare, für mich und meine genauso anglophile Freundin. Ach ja, zur Not kann man ihn auch als Tasche tragen:

P.P.S. I drafted the bag with the help of a dinner plate. As it turns out, Wedgwood (anglophile, I told ya`) dinner plates make a good bag size.
P.P.S. Die Tasche habe ich mit Hilfe eines Esstellers (Wedgwood, natürlich :-)) entworfen. Esstellergröße, so stellt sich heraus, ist ein gutes Taschenmaß.

Girl's Dress/Mädchenkleid Burda Style 6-2010-149

I needed this. Life/mothering has been a bit hard since DS started school last year; last week another school year began. I'm almost starting to envy those who are able to homeschool (illegal in Germany), though I'm sure that isn't a piece of cake either...

Ich brauchte etwas, um meine Laune zu heben. Das neue Schuljahr hat begonnen, und unser Sohn ist nicht gerade glücklich darüber. Ich finde es schwer auszutarieren, was ich in dieser Situation für ihn tun kann, und wo meine Grenzen sind. Nicht einfach, das Ganze.

To elevate my mood, I made a fall dress for DD out of some small wale corduroy we bought in the Netherlands three years ago. I looked for a very simple pattern and found this one. I took off the button placket, added a centered back zipper, lengthened the sleeves, put some elastic in the sleeve cuffs, and fully lined the dress. I kept the four little folds at the neck and the neck binding (and forgot to bind the lining as well. In the end I handstitched it in.)

Was mache ich da? Nähen, natürlich! Ich habe das Schnittmuster etwas abgeändert; Ärmel länger und mit Elastik, Knopfleiste weg und dafür Reißverschluss nach hinten, ganz gefüttert. Die Fältchen am Ausschnitt und der Halsabschluss durften bleiben; leider habe ich bei letzterem vergessen, das Futter mitzufassen und durfte es dann von Hand annähen. Der Stoff/Babycord ist vom Restverkauf bei Oilily; erstanden in Alkmaar  vor drei Jahren.

First off, thank you so much for your kind and helpful comments, on the skirt, on my blogging, and each and every time. You always make my day! Ich wollte mal wieder Danke sagen für Eure netten Kommentare! Nähen wäre nicht dasselbe ohne Euch.

I made this dress back in July when I needed a break from involved sewing. It was easy and it's cute, but I discovered that's not why I sew. I need a challenge, lack of time and/or energy notwithstanding.
Das Mädchenkleid habe ich genäht, um bei einem enfachen Projekt zu entspannen. Hat nicht funktioniert; auch wenn es ganz niedlich ist, habe ich mich gelangweilt. Ich glaube, ich brauche wenigstens eine kleine Herausforderung.

I was kind of sad I let Me-Made June slip. I believe Me-Made months are good for my sewing and dressing morale. I intend to do weekly outfit posts and have grand plans to sew and wear new things. Hope springs eternal!

Ich mache bei Zoe's neuem Me-Made Monat mit. Das wird meiner Moral gut tun, was das Anziehen und das Nähen angeht. Im Urlaub habe ich Nähpläne geschmiedet. Die Hoffnung stirbt zuletzt!

We're back from out vacation which was a bit too short and rainy this year. At any rate, here's proof I can't do a vacation without my IKEA skirt (however crumpled) anymore:

Copycat Skirt/Abgeguckter Rock

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? So, I hope the originators of this (fairly basic) pattern won't fault me for not buying the pattern, but making my own.

I started out with a basic (and didn't even note the number, sorry) high-waisted pencil skirt pattern with waist darts, no waistband from one of my numerous BWOF magazines. I then took out the darts and added vertical seams where the darts were, cut apart the center front and added cut-on facings there. The last pattern alteration was adding to the hip curve and widening the side pieces at the bottom, so it's faily straight cut but much wider than a pencil skirt.

I'm not sure I got the hip curve right; it sticks out a bit and forms a little "egg" shape. It could just be my subpar pressing skills as well. In the photos it's not really visible, so I might leave it as is and wear (and wash) it for a while and then see whether it keeps bothering me.

I added belt loops at the natural waist (the pattern was supposed to go to 1 1/2" above the waist) and a 3/4" self-fabic tie belt. A row of buttons in front, and topstitching/buttonholes in a dark beige/khaki (though it appears white on the navy fabric).

I'm pretty happy with the skirt! It is fully lined and made from a twill weave, either all cotton or a mix. It hangs beautifully and feels extremely comfortable. I will have to get used to its high waist, though, because it needs tucking in to look flattering, which I haven't done for quite a while! 

We're leaving for our summer vacation tomorrow morning. There won't be fabric shopping or sewing, but hopefully lots of sunshine and relaxation. Happy sewing!

Mir gefiel der z.Zt. recht populäre, vorne geknöpfte Rock ziemlich gut. Da ich aber weder neue Schnittmuster brauche (wollt Ihr meine Burda-Sammlung sehen?), noch dieser Rock so außergewöhnlich ist beschloss ich, mich an einer Eigenkreation zu versuchen.

Ausgangspunkt war ein Burda-Schnitt (Nummer vergessen, sorry!) für einen hochgeschnittenen schmalen Rock, ganz schlicht, Abhäher vorne und hinten, kein Bund. Ich habe zuerst die Schnitteile auseinandergenommen und überall dort wo ein Abnäher war statt dessen eine Teilungsnaht hinzugefügt. In der vorderen Mitte ebenso, und dort noch angeschnittene Belege für die Knopfleiste hinzugefügt. Dann habe ich noch ab Hüfte weiter ausgestellt und in eine gerade Form übergehen lassen.

Die Weite ist insgesamt gut, aber die Hüfte ist mir etwas rund geraten und erinnert an die sogenannte "O-Form". Oder kann ich nur nicht bügeln? Auf den Fotos fällt's nicht so auf, deshalb werde ich den Rock wohl erst mal probetragen und waschen und dann weitersehen.

Auf Taillenhöhe habe ich Gürtelschlaufen angebracht und einen schmalen (2 cm) Stoffgürtel genäht. Zum Absteppen und für die Knopflöcher habe ich dunkelbeiges Garn verwendet, das aber auf dem Dunkelblau fast weiß aussieht. Der Stoff ist ein gut fallender Baumwoll- oder Baumwollmixstoff, und ich habe ihn ganz gefüttert. Er ist superbequem und gefällt mir ausnehmend gut, wenn ich mich auch noch an die Form und das Tragen eines hochgeschnittenen Rocks (Oberteile reinstecken!) gewöhnen muss.

Morgen fahren wir in Urlaub, endlich. Ich sehe weder Stoffe noch Nähen in meiner Glaskugel, aber hoffentlich Sonnenschein und entspannte Tage. Näht schön!

Ballet Bag/Balletttasche

After sticking with my resumed ballet classes for almost a year (I even found my old pointe shoes!), I decided to make myself a dedicated ballet bag. If you've read this blog for any length of time, you know my obsession with Russian nesting dolls/matryoshkas. Imagine my delight when I saw this Asian doll fabric on the Stoff&Stil website. Ballet+doll fabric=bliss!

I drafted the entire bag according to what I need to take to class with me. The order of construction: I made the front/back/flap part as one piece and lined this (with inner pockets sewn on the lining) first. I then lined the two side parts. Then I sewed together middle and side parts, wrong sides together or "open seamed". Last, I attached the (lined) strap.

I used a soft interfacing, wanting a light bag and no trouble turning the bag during construction. You can see how it all fits in the pictures!

Nach einem Jahr (erneutem) Ballettunterricht gehe ich mal davon aus, dass ich eine Weile dabei bleibe und habe mir eine passende Tasche genäht. Der Stoff ist von Stoff&Stil, und wer in der Vergangenheit meine Matrjoschka-Obsession mitbekommen hat kann sich vorstellen, warum ich ihn ansprechend fand!

Ich habe die Tasche dem entsprechend entworfen, was ich zum Ballett mitnehme. Alles passt, wie Ihr auf den Fotos sehen könnt!

Eine kurze Erläuterung zur Konstruktion: Ich habe den gesamten mittleren Teil (Überschlag, Vorderteil, Rückenteil) und Futter mit Innentaschen verstürzt und zwei Seitenteile ebenfalls mit Futter verstürzt. Dann erst habe ich mittleren Teil und Seitenteile "offenkantig" links auf links zusammengenäht und als letztes den Schulter"riemen". Ich habe nur eine leichte Einlage verwendet, da ich keine Gefummele beim Wenden und eine leichte Tasche wollte.
