Me-Made-Mittwoch/Me-Made Wednesday

Me-Made-Mittwoch schon wieder ungeschminkt (ist das jetzt schlimm oder gut, dass mir das egal ist?) und in der immer noch nicht gespannten Peggy Sue. Die heute gut ist, weil ich ein bisschen friere. Die aber nicht das Frühlingsjäckchen geworden ist, das ich mir vorstelle.

Ich habe Größe „S“ gestrickt und finde sie, vor allem oberhalb des Bündchens, zu weit. Das Garn ist auch ziemlich mollig (Schurwolle, „Karisma“ von DROPS). Ich musste einmal Garn nachbestellen, und so fühlt sich mein Jäckchen jetzt auch an: ziemlich schwer, dick, weit. Ob ich so ein warmes Schaf über ein Sommerkleid ziehen werde, bezweifle ich!

Ich muss auf jeden Fall noch dazu lernen, was die Größenwahl angeht. Die kurzen Ärmel machen die Jacke auch nicht richtig nutzbar für die kalte Jahreszeit (hätte ich längere gewollt, hätte ich noch einmal Wolle nachbestellen müssen). Vielleicht motze ich auch nur, weil ich mich erst an das neue Teil gewöhnen muss – das geht mir oft so. Meine Miette lag erst ein paar Wochen ungeliebt im Schrank, und zur Zeit ziehe ich sie kaum noch aus.

(Eigentlich sieht man meine Sachen sowieso nicht. Ich trage immer ein Tuch darüber.)

I'm a bit disillusioned with my PeggySue (still unblocked, ahem!) at the moment. It's too wide for my taste, above the waist at least (am I dreaming or are a lot of knitting patterns designed for the well-endowed lady?). I had to order more yarn which should have given me pause, because I made it from pure wool and now it's like a big, warm wool blanket! Which has its place but not necessarily in spring, and I doubt I will wear this over a light summer dress.

Then again, the short sleeves (and short sleeves it was or I'd have had to order more yarn yet again!) don't make this very practical in the cold either. Today I layered it over this longsleeve; not sure if it's a great look. Although this is a cold May day and I'm snug and warm! - So maybe it's just new project crankiness and will go away in time :-)

Me-Made-Mittwoch + Me-Made May 2014

Ein Rundumschlag nach einem Monat Handarbeit ohne Bloggen.

Me-Made-May: 

Ich trage bisher jeden Tag Selbstgenähtes, mache mir dieses Jahr aber keinen Stress mit Fotos. Ich hatte damals bei Zoes erstem Me-Made-May mitgemacht (und vorher ihr Me-Made-March Experiment verfolgt), kaum zu glauben und wunderschön, wie die Bewegung gewachsen ist. Sogar der Guardian hat einen Artikel darüber veröffentlicht!

Apropos Gruppenbewegung: 

Ich habe mein Frühlingsjäckchen fertig, bis auf Fäden einziehen und Spannen. So weit war ich auch vor Ostern, war aber zum Finale in Urlaub. Wir sehen uns zum Finale der Herzen! (Und: sieht meine neue Püppi nicht schick aus mit der Jacke? Außerdem: drapierter Stoff vom holländischen Stoffmarkt. Brauche ich jetzt einen Maxirock??) 

Zum Thema Spannen hatte ich schon mal in die Runde gefragt und bin jetzt auf diesen Post von Yarn Harlot zum Thema gestoßen. Mir ist dadurch vieles klar geworden und ich bin fest entschlossen, meine Peggy Sue noch zu spannen!

Und zuletzt: Me-Made-Mittwoch. 

Das Kleid habe ich aus einem Meter Baumwolljersey zusammengeschustert, als mir aufging, dass meiner Garderobe dringend Jerseykleider fehlen. Als Schnitt habe ich wieder das alte T-Shirt abgenommen (wie hier, das Teil trage ich trotz seltsamer Bauchnaht ständig!). Hüfte vermessen, die nötige Weite zugegeben und, soweit der Stoff es hergab, verlängert. Da das für mich echt kurz ist, habe ich mir den Saum gespart! Die Ärmel musste ich auch anschneiden, trotzdem gefällt es mir gut, und ich hatte quasi überhaupt keinen Verschnitt!

Woran ich arbeite:

Wie 50 % der anderen Stoffmarktbesucher, an diesem Rock aus der Ottobre in Originalstoff. Geniales Marketing ;-) !

Näht schön, strickt schön und genießt den Frühling!

Trying for a 15-minute-post :-)

I have been observing Me-Made May, but not taking pictures. Nonetheless, I'm so happy for the success of Zoe's venture – and well-deserved on the Guardian article, too!

Speaking of anything-alongs/group efforts, ahem, I missed the Spring Cardigan Knit-Along deadline. Actually my cardi was done, except for buttons, dangling threads and blocking. Oh, and I have found the post to answer all the questions there ever were on blocking, here on Yarn Harlot. If you're clueless like me, go read it! Now I understand!

But! We have a new roommate who is presenting the cardi as it is, threads hanging and unblocked but with buttons (Dutch fabric market!). Also presenting a fabric draped on her and looking so good that I who never wasted a thought on maxi skirts now might need a maxi. Go figure.

And! Me-Made-Wednesday. I made this dress from a scant meter of cotton knit material a few weeks ago. I had thought a bit about what my wardrobe needs (must be in the air with all the wardrobing posts going round?) and the answer was: more knit dresses. So there. I used the rubbed-off-t-shirt-pattern (like here, and I wear that shirt all the time!), cut on the sleeves for lack of material, left off the bottom hem for the same reason, measured my hip width and added as much width as needed in as much length as I had fabric. Ta-daa! Dress!

What I'm working on: The title skirt from the current Ottobre, in the original fabric, no less! As is every second sewer I met at the fabric market, Ottobre in hand, buying the very same fabric :-) !.

FJKA Zwischenstand/Knit-Along Report

Heute ist Zeit für den „Ersten Zwischenstand – Stolz auf den Fortschritt, Schwierigkeiten und Lösungen“ beim Frühlingsjäckchen-Knitalong.

Ich bin beim unteren Bündchen meiner Peggy Sue, bei der achten von insgesamt 11 Zopfmuster-Wiederholungen (uff).

Nicht so sicher bin ich mir gerade, ob ich noch einmal ein Zopfmuster stricke, jedenfalls so eins, das die Maschen mehrfach verdreht, mir relativ feinem Garn. Vielleicht mal eine schöne dicke irische Strickjacke?

Meine Hände sind von der Kleinarbeit etwas strapaziert/verkrampft und ich habe festgestellt, nachdem ich abends einmal zu weit von der Sofaecken-Lichtquelle weggesessen habe, dass sich ein paar Fehler eingeschlichen haben und mir schlicht die Traute fehlte, das Ganze aufzuribbeln (wer weiß, ob ich die Maschen noch mal aufgehalten bekomme?).

Ich bin jetzt auch nicht so perfektionistisch, die Fehler können ruhig bleiben. Aber entspanntes Sofastricken ist trotzdem anders.

Von anderen habe ich gehört/gelesen, dass sie parallel immer ein schwieriges und ein einfaches Projekt vorhalten, je nach Stricksituation. Vielleicht ist das die Lösung. Oder vielleicht ist das der Anfang vom Ende? Bisher habe ich meine Strick-/Garn-/Projektdisziplin noch knapp im Auge (Garn nur für die nächsten zwei Prjekte im Haus, für das nächste Projekt Muster gestrickt aber nicht angefangen), was man von meinen Nähprojekten (ca. 5 gleichzeitig in Arbeit, manche davon seit Jahren) und Stoffbergen nicht behaupten kann.

Außerdem soll das Stricken ja spannend bleiben. Eigentlich wollte ich demnächst mal mehrfarbig probieren. Übernehme ich mich? Oder brauche ich nur besseres Licht? Wie haltet Ihr es mit der Zahl und Schwierigkeit Eurer Strickprojekte?

It's time for an interim report on the spring jacket knit-along.

I'm about 4/5ths through with my PeggySue, and although I'm loving the look of the tiny cables I'm not loving knitting them. My hands cramp and I'm wishing for a nice fat Aran cable, twisted just once, instead of having to switch stitches three times within a single, DK weight, cable twist.

I also made a couple of mistakes when knitting in suboptimal lighting, and I'm too chicken to frog it. It's fine, just not relaxing, and I'm wondering whether I should start an easier project to switch to when knitting conditions are less than perfect.

My fear is I'll end up on a slippery slope having boxes of yarn and dozens of projects going, taking over the house which is impossible, since that's how it is with my fabrics and sewing projects and the house is taken over already!

Any tips on switching projects? Or relaxing crampy hands? (I thought I'm knitting TO relax. What happened?)

FJKA 2 / Miette

der Frühling muss mich beflügeln, den Fluch gebrochen haben, was weiß ich... jedenfalls habe ich meine Miette beendet (bis auf Fäden einziehen und Knöpfe, lasst uns nicht kleinlich sein), die Maschenprobe erledigt und meine Peggy Sue alias Frühlingsjäckchen angestrickt.

A propos Maschenprobe, ich habe bei den letzten Projekten ein bisschen mit meiner Fadenspannung (sagt man das?) experimentiert. Meine natürliche Strickweise ist eher fest und ich habe herausgefunden, dass mir das Maschenbild dann besser gefällt als wenn ich künstlich bemüht locker stricke. Bei Peggy Sue in Karisma kommt meine Maschenprobe mit der angegebenen Nadelstärke glücklicherweise genau hin.

Eine kleine Reihe Zopfmuster habe ich schon gestrickt und gemerkt:

1. Es ist nicht halb so kompliziert wie ich gedacht hatte.
2. Die Zopfnadel hat mich stante pedes wahnsinnig gemacht. Hätte ich mir sparen können, ohne geht (für mich) besser.

I've broken the curse, or maybe inhaled too much heady spring air, anyway, I almost finished my Miette (only pesky thread tails and buttons left) and started my knit-along project, Peggy Sue in Drops Karisma.

I've experimented with gauge a bit and found that I like the look of my natural, quite tight gauge best. Luckily in this case my gauge is just right for the project according to the pattern.

The cardi is started at the neck with a tiny little cabled ribbing. My first cable! Surprise! It's not half as hard as it looks! Also, I cast aside the cable needle a few stitches in. I found it terribly clumsy and slow and can knit the cable pattern just fine with shifting the stitches on my regular needles.

Sew-Alongs, Knit-Alongs and Being A Team Player / FJKA und der Fluch des Gruppenprojekts

So. Habe ich endlich einen Preis für den längsten Titel gewonnen? *grins*

Gruppenprojekten war auf diesem Blog bisher kein Glück beschieden. Egal ob fremdbestimmt oder selbstausgedacht, zu Weihnachten oder zwecks Trenchcoat, fertig geworden bin ich nur ein Mal (und das noch geschummelt mit Fremdnähen, wo solches nicht vorgesehen war) - der Rest versandete zwischen Absichtserklärung und Alltag.

Nun kommt ganz frech und frühlingshaft ein knit-along des Weges, auf dem ich sowieso schon war. Kann das noch schief gehen? (Sagt es mir lieber gleich, denn ich hätte wirklich gerne mein Frühlingsjäckchen!)

Seit Beginn meiner Verwandlung zur Strickerin habe ich einen Pullover, einen Loop und ca. 3/4 einer Strickjacke (Miette) fertig gestrickt. Da ich zwischen vorletztem und letztem Projekt auf Wolle warten musste und echte Entzugserscheinungen hatte, steht mein nächstes Projekt schon eine Weile fest und heute klingelte der Postbote mit der Wolle. Es wird:

Einen Bildungsauftrag hat das Ganze auch, denn mit Flax hatte ich gelernt, nach (englischer) Anleitung zu stricken, die Miette bietet erstmals ein Lochmuster, und Peggy Sue hat ganz allerliebste Zopfrippchen.

Dass ich heute vom Frühlingsjäckchen Knit-Along alias FJKA gelesen habe, kann kein Zufall sein, oder? Also ganz mutig, Uta, du wirst den Fluch brechen und... am FJKA teilnehmen.

The German blogosphere is hosting a spring cardigan knit-along. Sounds like a great idea, doesn't it, except my past projects were doomed from the moment I piped "I'm in!" at any kind of team effort.

Tell me this time will be different, pretty please, because this time I came up with the plan and the pattern and had the whole project queued before I learned of the knit-along. I'm making "Peggy Sue" in Drops Karisma yarn in green (quite blue-ish, actually).

My hope is this will help me along on my journey to become a more knowledgeable knitter. With the Flax sweater I learned to follow a pattern, Miette has a lacy eyelet pattern and Peggy Sue will teach me to knit cables.

I seem to be a more disciplined knitter than sewer (so far) - since starting my journey to become a knitter I made a sweater, a loop and 3/4s of a Miette cardigan. I have no yarn stash and I have finished my projects before starting the next one. Is there hope for me?
