2nd Girl's-dress / 2. Mädchenkleid Ottobre-3-2009-18

I made this dress in July, for a friend's daughter. It's the same pattern as this dress I made for DD.

(I must have taken this picture before hemming it!? It did get hemmed, I assure you!)

I adore the balloon fabric (by Stoff&Stil), although it's printed off-grain and extremely flimsy. In the end I underlined the front and back pieces of the dress to "beef it up" and not have it shred to pieces on the first playground outing. That said, I'd like it for myself :-) .

The appliquè is (in part) a "design feature"; my sewing machine sometimes loses a drop of (black) oil; trying to get it off resulted in loss of color, so I added another balloon (about all I had; if I remember right I had a scant 1/2 metre, quilting width, of this fabric!).

I don't have a modelled pic but I happened to photograph DD that same week in her dress I made last year. It's a great pattern, fast to finish and cute worn on its own as well as over a t-shirt.

Happy sewing!

  1. I love that red border around the bottom. And the balloon applique. The whole thing actually.

  2. Cute sundress! I love the appliqué balloon down in the red band. I would never have noticed the drop of oil if you hadn't pointed it out.
