Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

DD's dress is finished and Christmas Eve is almost here. Perfect timing!

I sewed this in 30 min a day, more or less, which is a lesson in how things will get finished even if you think you have no time at all. I'm in love with the result, it turned out exactly like I imagined!

Here's the details in case you care ;-)

I used the bodice from a Burda pattern, heavily altered.

The neckline was raised, the front buttons omitted and the front bodice cut on the fold. The back was cut in two and a lapped pickstitched zipper added as per Kenneth King's instructions ("Cool Couture").

The lining was handstitched to the armholes and zipper band. I also stitched the bottom hem by hand. I made the separate tulle underskirt pattern as descibed, but stitched it to the bodice lining instead of adding elastic. The tulle peeks through a bit which I love!

The skirt was also underlined in silk organza. This gave the thin quilting cotton a lot of body, quite as much as the thick poly satin duchesse of the bodice. I was very lucky with my online fabric orders; the colors went together perfectly and the quality was very nice.

I'm wrapping up the year listening to the Puppini Sisters' Christmas album (awesome!). The days until New Year's will be spent on family and a bit of work to wrap up.

Thank your for reading and for sharing! I hope you all have lovely holidays and a healthy, happy New Year!

  1. She looks beautiful in it! I am impressed you took so much time and attention with a project for a growing child! I tend to sew "quick and dirty" for kids because I always think they will grow out of it too quickly. You put me to shame! It's gorgeous.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
