First Stitches II

Carolyn inspired me to post my first machine-sewn project (I already showed my first needlework a couple of years ago here).

(outside/außen)

I remember making these shorts on my mom's treadle machine. It sewed forward, backwards and zigzag. This may be why I still feel in the lap of luxury sewing with an electric machine, even though it is an old and unsophisticated model!

I remember sewing these shorts, but I have no memory of making the pattern (maybe my mom did?) and of making a french seam in the crotch (I must have forgotten because I'm pretty sure I did all the sewing myself).

I was about 13 or 14 years old then. Yes, the shorts still exist. Yes, they are still in my closet. I may not normally wear them, but when in a pinch and I'll only be in the garden... you may just see them on me!

In other news, you may have noticed that I'm sewing and posting less. All is well, just busy, and I really need to get with last year's resolution to sew in smaller spurts of time. A big thank you to all of you who are reading along and commenting, and who inspire me to keep sewing by showing your beautiful work!

******************************************

  1. Fun! I can't even remember my first project - I think it's a half-finished doll quilt. I do have a green linen dress that I made early on.

  5. That's amazing that you still have your first shorts, and that you still wear them! Very impressive!
I also went back and looked at your first stitches post; your bags were really cute. How nice to still have these treasures, years later...

  6. Very nice for your first machine sewn project! My mom dug out some of my first projects recently and I was a little horrified at their horribleness (:
